Welcome to Year 2
The Hungry Caterpillar Base!
Welcome to our class page! We'll be sharing lots of our learning on here and there will also be links to help you too. Keep checking back to see what great learning has been happening in Year 2.
As part of our topic learning, we were really excited to have a visit from Dorset Fire Service. Gareth came and talked to us about how to keep ourselves and our families safe. We learn loads!
Lighters, matches, never touch
They can hurt you very much!
Stop, drop and roll.
Get out, stay out, call 999
Test it Tuesdays (ask the children for more information!)
We were also really lucky that Steve from Blandford fire station could come to school with one of the fire engines. It was great to be able to see all the things they have to carry and to climb into the front too - it was so high up!
In Year 2 we read a story by Peter Reynolds called The Dot. The story is about a girl who thinks she can't do something but she realises that she can when she actually tries! We created beautiful dots like the character in the book.
We have been having an amazing time in Year 2 so far. The children have settled in really quickly and have adapted to new routines and the continued high expectations in year 2.
Over the next few weeks we will be sending out home learning but until then, keep up with that reading - at least 3 times a week.
Welcome back Year 2!
Well, what an amazing first week back! The adults have been super impressed at how quickly you have settled into your new classroom. You've all remember where things live and have helped each other to find your way around. Well done to those who have changed their reading books themselves every morning, it's your first job when you come into school each morning.
Just a reminder that PE will be on a Monday and a Tuesday so please make sure you have your PE kit in school for both days.
What an amazing week in Year 2! We started the week by looking at what is meant by profit... everyone was very excited about trying to make as much money as possible at the market on Friday - remembering that we have to give back our initial £20 before we count up.
In maths this week the children have worked hard on money problems using their addition and subtraction skills - ready to count up how much people are spending and working out change.
Next we had to think of a way to persuade people to buy the things we make. Working in groups, the children came up with lots of different reasons why our items were so good to buy. Pairing this with our work on alliteration, they created amazing titles.
'Melt in the mouth marshmallows'
'Fancy friendship bracelets'
'See the sea animals grow' - spot the homophone!
Year 2 had an important job today. Deciding on which values they think are the most important for our school, I was really impressed with how carefully they all thought about what each value was before casting their individual votes. We'll see what comes out as the top 5 after the Christmas holidays.
We had a great morning learning about how fires are put out meaning we could compare it with our learning about the Great fire of London which happened in 1666. Everyone got to use the fire engine hose which was very exciting! We learnt about the fire triangle, what to do in an emergency and how important it is to check our fire alarms at home.
